SUMMARY:Origin Stories: How Broad’s Earliest Days Sparked Two Decades of Innovation
DESCRIPTION:This story-telling event will feature some of Broad’s longest-serving scientists and other team members whose pioneering work on the Human Genome Project\, the International HapMap Project\, and other efforts built the foundation for the approach to research and community that still define the Broad Institute today. \nEric Lander\, Todd Golub\, Sheila Dodge\, Stacey Gabriel\, David Altshuler\, and many others will share stories of how uncertainty\, scrappiness\, vision\, struggle\, and teamwork were key to Broad’s early successes and are still reflected in the institute’s research and culture.

SUMMARY:Tumor Heterogeneity and Drug Resistance
DESCRIPTION:The 22nd Annual Koch Institute Symposium on Tumor Heterogeneity and Drug Resistance will take place on Friday\, June 21\, 2024. This year’s speaker lineup features a robust array of experts\, both internal to MIT and from external institutions around the US and abroad\, representing multiple scientific disciplines and technical approaches that seek to better understand patient-specific variation in cancer progression and response to therapy. \nWe cordially invite scientists\, oncologists\, and any other member of the biomedical community to join us in a day of engaging talks\, stimulating conversations with colleagues\, and of course camaraderie in our collective fight against cancer. As we explore issues ranging from divergent single-cell states and plasticity to mechanisms of resistance through signaling and epigenetics\, please consider joining us at this year’s summer symposium hosted by MIT’s nationally recognized basic cancer center.

SUMMARY:Arthur and Sandra Irving Cancer Immunology Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Arthur\, Sandra and Sarah Irving together with the Mass General Cancer Center are excited to announce the third annual “Arthur and Sandra Irving Cancer Immunology Symposium” to be held on June 24-27\, 2024. The Symposium will bring together about 15 accomplished faculty mentors who are excited to share their discoveries and research career experience in cancer immunology with approximately 45 promising young scientists (post-docs and starting PIs). \nParticipation in the symposium will provide an opportunity to develop strong ties with senior faculty mentors and learn about the different paths to success in cancer immunology research. Participants will learn how excellent science can be advanced by formulating questions\, designing and executing studies to address these questions\, hiring\, mentoring\, collaborating\, leadership\, raising funds\, and publishing. Sessions will cover these and other key areas for a successful research career and include lectures\, small discussion/working groups with faculty mentors on specific topics\, and review sessions to integrate lessons learned. Participants will also work on updating their research statement to support their next stage of career development. \nStarting with their research statement/plan\, participants will work on refining research plans and strategies to enable the next stage of their career and beyond. Mentor-mentee relationships will be formed during the symposium and maintained for many years to come. \nApplicants are selected by a committee based on the applicant’s research achievements and plans\, and recommendations by their mentors.
