SUMMARY:Glial and Neuronal Biology of the Aging Brain Symposium
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THIS EVENT \nJoin us for a joint Alana Down Syndrome Center and Aging Brain Initiative symposium on October 5-6\, 2022. The topic this year will be Glial and Neuronal Biology of the Aging Brain. \nThis event will take place virtually over the course of two days: October 5 and October 6. Talks will begin at 1:00pm ET on October 5 and 9:00am ET on October 6 . The October 6 talks will be followed by a virtual poster session beginning at 12:15pm ET. \n________ \nThe Aging Brain Initiative and The Alana Down Syndrome Center\nThe Aging Brain Initiative (ABI) is an interdisciplinary effort by MIT focusing on understanding neurodegeneration and discovery efforts to find hallmarks of aging\, both in health and disease. \nThe Alana Down Syndrome Center (ADSC) aims to deepen knowledge about Down syndrome and to improve health\, autonomy and inclusion of people with this genetic condition. \nThe ABI and the ADSC have joined forces for this year’s symposium to highlight how aging-related changes to the brain overlap with neurological aspects of Down syndrome. Our hope is to encourage greater collaboration between the brain aging and Down syndrome research communities\n________ \nLOCATION \nThis will be a virtual event viewable via webcast. \nAll registrants will be sent the webcast link via email one week prior to the event (with reminders the day prior and morning of the event). SUMMARY:Third Annual Gilbert S. Omenn Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Microbial Genomics: From Public Health to Personalized Care \nThe last decade has witnessed an exponential increase in access to whole genome sequencing technologies that have now migrated from a research-only tool to a public health work-horse and increasingly used for guiding delivery of medical care. I will discuss applications and frontiers in pathogen genome sequencing and other ‘omics’ as tools to improve surveillance and treatment of tuberculosis across the facets of care from disease detection to antibiotic resistance diagnosis to treatment monitoring. I will specifically discuss how the use of pathogen sequencing can integrate within and circumvent resource challenges in LMICs.
