SUMMARY:Genomic Integration of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus and the Potential Relevance for the Course of COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Rudolf Jaenisch will summarize the stages of SARS-CoV-2 infection and highlight some puzzling observations. These include the recurrence of PCR-positive tests in patients that have cleared all infectious virus and the long-term complications of the infection (also known as Long-Covid). He will discuss his lab’s evidence for genomic integration of SARS-CoV-2 sequences in cultured cells as well as in patients. One question has been whether vaccine RNA can also integrate into the genome and he will discuss their preliminary results suggesting that vaccine RNA does not integrate.

SUMMARY:CircaVent: A New Platform for Bipolar Disorder Drug Discovery
DESCRIPTION:Bipolar disorder is a debilitating mental health condition that afflicts millions of people the United States. Despite being relatively common\, there are very few treatments available for bipolar disorder. Many of those treatments don’t work well\, and/or cause significant side effects that discourage patients from taking them. \nThe Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering is working on a new technology called CircaVent to solve this problem. CircaVent combines algorithms\, preclinical tadpole models\, and human brain organoids to identify drugs that could treat the underlying causes of bipolar disorder and other mental health conditions. \nJoin us for a special webinar to learn more about how CircaVent can help effective drugs get into clinical trials and to patients with bipolar disorder who need them\, faster.

SUMMARY:Securing the Future of Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable food production is challenged on many fronts. There will be more mouths to feed using fewer resources on less land. The environment is warming\, rainfall patterns are changing\, and atmospheric carbon dioxide is increasing. Industrial farms based on the oil economy will need to give way to new energy systems in less than a generation. Geopolitical instability threatens global food security\, and the rate of crop improvement remains stubbornly slow. \nThere is plenty of room for innovation. Seeds are the key to revolutionizing agricultural productivity\, and the 21st Century brought powerful new genomic tools to accelerate genetic gain. \nThis symposium — cosponsored by the MIT Whitehead Institute and Inari — covers how some of these tools\, developed here in Cambridge\, are being used to advance crop improvement. \nMorning Session: Where We Find Opportunities for Crop Improvement \nAfternoon Session Bring on the Compute: How Data and Deep Learning Will Deliver Tomorrow’s Crops \nHave a question about the event? Email: SecuringAgFuture@inari.com \nINDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT HAVE AN MIT ID ARE REQUIRED TO ORDER A TIM TICKET VISITOR PASS TO ACCESS THIS EVENT.
