We bring professors and experts into bars to share talks on fascinating ideas and topics that just makes you binge think.\nWe usually think of materials as things we use. Passive. Fixed. Predictable. But what if materials could participate in the creative process with us? \nAcross human-computer interaction\, fashion design\, network science\, music\, and creativity research\, a new idea is emerging: materials don’t just support creativity… they can actively shape it. \nIn this talk\, Bolor Amgalan explores how materials are shifting from static matter into responsive\, evolving\, agentic creative partners. \nThe result? \nMaterials that adapt and respond over time\, rather than staying fixed\nCreative systems where interaction becomes a dialogue instead of a command\nNew design workflows where tools evolve alongside the designer\nA rethinking of “digital materials” as a living creative medium \nIn this talk\, you’ll learn about Bolor Amgalan’s research on Designing Agentic Materials that Support Human Creativity.\nHer work draws from human-computer interaction\, fashion design\, network science\, music\, and creativity research to explore: \nHow materials can be reframed as active participants in creative work rather than passive substances or interfaces? \nWhat the Processual Material Design framework is\, and how it enables materials that evolve\, respond\, and collaborate over time? \nWhat kinds of design spaces open up when virtual materials are treated as a new creative medium\, and how designers can meaningfully activate those spaces? \nBecause the future of design may not be about controlling materials… but collaborating with them. \nAbout the Speaker\nBolor Amgalan is an Associate Teaching Professor at Northeastern University’s College of Arts\, Media and Design (CAMD). Her work sits at the intersection of human-computer interaction\, computational design\, and creative systems. \nHer current research explores agentic and processual material systems\, focusing on how designers can create materials that evolve\, respond\, and participate in creative workflows over time. \nShe draws from interdisciplinary fields including fashion design\, network science\, music\, and creativity research to develop new frameworks for understanding materials as dynamic participants in the creative process.

SUMMARY:Mass Innovation Nights
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the second 2026 Mass Innovation Night event at the Museum of Science\, as part of the Museum’s Year of Revolutionary Science. \nMass Innovation Nights (MIN) helps local innovators increase the buzz around new products and companies. From 2009 to 2020\, there were more than 130 Innovation Nights events\, with sponsors gaining invaluable exposure and access to the innovation business community\, and 1500 collective exhibitors securing more than $4 billion in funding. \nMIN is so much more than an event. It’s a month-long promotion and celebration of startups and their new products. The events bring together a community that includes investors\, sponsors\, venues\, business leaders\, innovators\, supporters\, students\, and social media champions. A weekly newsletter is sent out every Monday\, sharing information about the new products\, the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem and promoting startup community events. \nAt each event\, ten to fifteen companies showcase a new product\, and the innovation community turns out help spread the word via social media\, blogging\, and word of mouth. For the startups\, there are also connections made with prospective investors\, customers\, partners\, employees\, and service providers. For guests\, there is great networking and a chance to talk with entrepreneurs and see the latest local innovation. \nBe part of the next era of discovery\, collaboration\, and local innovation\, right here at the Museum of Science. \nLet’s make the buzz louder than ever.

This is a high-energy\, hands-on\, global event which brings together scientific leaders and business experts to mingle with scientists\, post-docs\, professors\, entrepreneurs\, innovators\, and venture capitalists. \nThe day features panel discussions\, emerging technology spinout showcase / pitches\, and features Tech Transfer Office startups and a networking reception. \nIt is the flagship event of life sciences in Massachusetts\, jointly and actively put together by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center\, BioLabs\, LabCentral\, MassVentures and The Engine\, in partnership with many other major organizations supporting the life sciences start-up ecosystem in the Commonwealth. \nAgenda details are still being finalized\, check back for updates! \nApply to Present in the MALSI Day Showcase \nMALSI Day Showcase is an opportunity for emerging university life sciences pre-startups and spinouts to present/pitch to investors and representatives from industry in a fun and dynamic environment. SUMMARY:Comparative Neuroscience: Lessons from Biodiversity
DESCRIPTION:The Picower Institute Fall 2026 Symposium “Comparative Neuroscience: Lessons from Biodiversity”\nAnimal behavior is incredibly diverse\, from insect to human societies; from jellyfish jet propulsion to flying bats. This symposium will bring together scientists with distinct perspectives to examine how nervous systems are organized across species and how these organizational principles relate to mechanisms of nervous system evolution. We will explore questions such as: to what extent do diverse nervous systems share common principles\, and when they do\, why? What can we learn from species differences? – for example\, why are some brains more regenerative than others? How does evolution alter the nervous system to generate novel behaviors? – and how do we compare neural networks across species and levels of complexity to ask such questions? With speakers ranging from evolutionary biology to computational neuroscience\, we expect this to be an exciting and thought-provoking day of science.
