SUMMARY:BioPharma Manufacturing In Massachusetts: A Talent Powerhouse Continues To Fuel Growth
DESCRIPTION:Massachusetts has long been the epicenter of biopharma research and development. Years of investment and collaboration between industry\, academia\, and government has provided biopharma manufacturers a rich and deep talent landscape in Massachusetts. Join leaders in the biopharma industry and higher education as they discuss current talent development assets\, share initiatives to grow talent even further\, and look to the future as the industry continues its growth in Massachusetts. \nThis virtual Forum\, hosted in partnership by MassBio\, MassECON\, MassBioEd\, and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center\, will include an overview of current biopharma talent assets and how the pool of talent has grown in recent years\, followed by an industry-higher education panel that will share case studies on collaboration and insights on what is on the horizon for new talent development.\nNOTE: MassBio makes every effort to accommodate our entire community at each of our events. Please let us know at least 3 days in advance of the event if you require special accommodations\, such as captioning.

SUMMARY:Dana Farber Targeted Protein Degradation Seminar
DESCRIPTION:What makes two proteins stick: dissecting molecular glue action\nWebinar registration:\nhttps://dfci.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Hr3R9LRoRUagwczvrWsO7g \nHost: Mikolaj Slabicki \n\n\nNicolas H. Thomä \n\n\nThe Thomä laboratory is interested in chromatin-bound machines and their regulation by the ubiquitin proteasome system. Guided by structural biology\, we use a range of genetic\, chemical and complex biochemical reconstitution tools to study protein function in genome maintenance and transcription. A particular focus is on dissecting how chromatin and the ubiquitin transferase system interplay. In recent years\, the lab worked towards understanding how proteins\, such as ubiquitin ligases\, can be re-programmed by small molecules\, and how this insight can be used to develop novel drugs. \nDr Nicolas Thomä is a group leader at the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel\, Switzerland. He is an elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and of Academia Europeana. Dr Thomä is the recipient of the Novartis Leading Scientist Award and holds an ERC Advanced Grant.

SUMMARY:Alternate Careers in Biology: Science Policy
DESCRIPTION:Christine Liu\nPhD candidate\, University of California\, Berkeley\nSarah McGuiness\nPhD candidate\, University of Illinois\, Chicago \nAs academics\, we work to better contextualize our relationship with the natural world. Other disciplines\, especially art\, have their own distinct ways of analyzing our relationship to our universe in furtherance of this goal. Artistic representations of scientific ideas are interesting in their own right\, and can serve to improve your ability to communicate your scientific ideas. How can art help your science? Could your scientific work one day become part of a work of art? To what extent can you merge your scientific and artistic interests in a career? \nWednesday\, January 18\nZoom link: https://mit.zoom.us/j/96753238521\nPassword: MITBiology
