DESCRIPTION:This workshop will be offered at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (January 30\, 2024) and at MIT on (February 1\, 2024). \nThe twenty-first century has seen an increase in extreme weather events\, large-scale environmental disasters\, and global health pandemics. Childers\, BA\, MSJ\, MSBE\, Head\, Bioethics-based Science & Technology Policy\, Office of the Chief Medical Officer at Johnson & Johnson \nKarla Childers joined Johnson & Johnson (J&J) in October 2013 in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer where her primary responsibility has been leading and coordinating various ethics-based\, science and technology policy projects. Her longest running responsibility has been the support and coordination of Johnson & Johnson’s Clinical Trial Data Transparency Initiative\, including the management of the Yale University Open Data Access (YODA) Project data sharing collaboration. \nMs. Childers is the Chair of the J&J Bioethics Committee\, which serves as an internal forum providing advice on bioethical questions within J&J. She is responsible for the management and conduct of that committee and relevant bioethics consultations. She serves as a bioethics subject matter expert for various internal and external science and technology policy work and coordinates the internal bioethics educational program sponsored by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer. \nMs. Childers has also been actively engaged outside J&J in various R&D and ethics-based work. She has volunteered in the Drug Information Association (DIA) in various roles for the past decade\, including the Annual Meeting Program Committee\, Annual Meeting Steering Committee\, and most recently co-founded the DIA Bioethics Community. She served three years on the Public Responsibility in Medicine & Research (PRIM&R) planning committee for the Advancing Ethical Research (AER) conference and continues to be an active speaker and member for PRIM&R. Most recently\, she joined the board of FASPE (Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics).

Molly was honored in 2020 in Endpoints News’ 20 under 40 list in biopharma and in 2021 in Business Insiders’ list of 12 young serial entrepreneurs building the next generation of biotech startups. \nMolly received a PhD in computational and systems biology from Washington University in Saint Louis in the Center for Genome Sciences\, with the support of a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. At Washington University\, Molly collaborated with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to study the effects of early life interventions on development of the preterm infant gut microbiome and health outcomes.

Remington Distinguished University Professor of Biostatistics\nProfessor\, Department of Statistics\nResearch Professor\, Institute for Social Research\nUniversity of Michigan School of Public Health \nAbstract: I review methods for handling missing data in empirical studies. I define missing data\, provide a taxonomy of main approaches to analysis\, including complete-case and available-case analysis\, weighting\, maximum likelihood (ML)\, Bayes\, single and multiple imputation (MI)\, and augmented inverse-probability weighting (AIPW). Assumptions about the missingness mechanism are key to the performance of alternative methods; I define missingness mechanisms\, which play a key role in the performance of methods. Approaches to robust inference\, and to inference when the mechanism is potentially missing not at random\, are discussed.
