SUMMARY:PROTACs - Targeted Protein Degradation: Promises And Challenges Ahead
DESCRIPTION:Targeted protein degradation is an emerging therapeutic modality which has made tremendous progress and attracted massive investment in recent years. This modality is a class of bifunctional small molecules composed of an E3 ligase binder linked to a target protein binding moiety. It offers the possibility to degrade any intracellular target proteins regardless if there is a well-defined binding pocket in the target protein. Therefore\, it opens numerous opportunities to drug many previously unreachable targets. However\, the molecules tend to be bulky\, floppy\, greasy\, and lack drug likeness properties. Nevertheless\, increasing preclinical animal data has demonstrated the desired efficacy. Very recently\, the early clinical safety and PK results are encouraging. In this forum our expert panel will share key learnings about this novel modality and discuss strategies to overcome potential challenges ahead. \nSponsored by MassBio’s Drug Discovery forum working group. \nMassBio makes every effort to accommodate our entire community at each of our events. Please let us know at least 3 days in advance of the event if you require special accommodations\, such as captioning.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Next Generation Immuno Oncology
DESCRIPTION:The development of cancer immunotherapies\, including checkpoint blockade-based immunotherapy and adoptive cell therapy such as CAR-T have had great success in combating cancer. However\, expanding their indications and overcoming treatment resistance has been very challenging. This forum will highlight several key next-generation immuno-oncology treatments under development. We will also discuss issues in clinical trial designs and disease-quantification (e.g.\, irRECIST) pertaining to these new approaches. \nSponsored by the MassBio Clinical Development\, Biostatistics and Data Management forum working group. \nMassBio makes every effort to accommodate our entire community at each of our events. SUMMARY:Seminar: History and Future of Thalidomide Analogs in Human Health
DESCRIPTION:Phil Chamberlain\n\n\nPhil obtained his B.A. and D.Phil. degrees from the University of Oxford before traveling to the U.S. to work at the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF). At GNF Phil supported and led projects in serious respiratory and inflammatory disease and solved multiple novel structures. Phil joined Celgene in 2007 and built and led the Structural and Chemical Biology department\, most recently as Executive Director\, Protein Homeostasis and Structural Biology. Phil was responsible for several fundamental scientific breakthroughs on the mechanism of action of thalidomide analogs\, including the structural basis for cereblon recruitment and the definition of the neosubstrate ‘structural degron’. Phil led the construction of the cereblon modulator platform at Celgene\, the pioneering drug discovery effort in the ‘molecular glue’ field. Phil has published work on targeted protein degradation in journals including Nature\, Nature Structural and Molecular Biology and Nature Chemical Biology. Phil was the recipient of the John W. Jackson leadership award.

SUMMARY:Translational Chemical Biology
DESCRIPTION:Chemical biology is a field of research that applies chemical creativity and approaches to answer complex basic and clinical questions. Chemical biology has had a strong impact on cancer research\, where chemical biology efforts\, combined with genomics and other large-scale types of analysis\, have enabled the translation of these insights into targeted therapies. The conference will cover emerging topics in the field of translational chemical biology\, especially those aimed at monitoring and treating cancer. This event will bring together leading experts in chemical biology as well as those with complementary research interests for two days of stimulating scientific interactions.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Launching New Drugs In The Time Of COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that since the onset of COVID-19 at the end of March of this year the FDA has approved over 18 novel drugs\, six of which were for biotech companies based in Massachusetts or with facilities in the Bay State? How are companies taking on the extraordinary challenges and obstacles of launching (or choosing not to launch) new drugs in the time of COVID-19? How are they educating and communicating with the audiences and stakeholders that are impacted? \nThis session will explore the approaches that companies have taken when it comes to launching newly approved drugs and how they’ve balanced meeting patient need and demand\, educating HCPs about these new treatments\, and managing business/investor expectations. We’ll hear from companies who proceeded full speed ahead and those who held back and what lessons have been learned from both. \nSponsored by the MassBio MarComm and Commercial forum working group. \nMassBio makes every effort to accommodate our entire community at each of our events. Please let us know at least 3 days in advance of the event if you require special accommodations\, such as captioning.
