DESCRIPTION:Develop the knowledge and skills you need to effectively lead your health care organization. \nPhysicians are often selected for senior leadership positions based on clinical expertise. No matter the setting\, these expanded roles require knowledge of critical management skills and leadership practices\, which are not typically part of physician training. \nThis executive education program brings together a peer group of physician leaders from a variety of health care settings around the world who face similar challenges. Harvard experts and industry leaders provide focused leadership and management training\, ensuring participants are prepared to direct change and drive value within their organizations and communities. \nDuring this highly interactive course\, participants will engage with each other and expert faculty in small groups\, experiential activities\, and full-class discussions\, allowing for an open exchange of ideas to address the challenges inherent in creating a healthy population\, quality health care\, and maintaining cost effectiveness. \nAs a participant\, you will: \n\nDevelop a deeper awareness of your own leadership strengths and development opportunities\nEnhance your strategy\, negotiation\, conflict management\, peer and team management and other key leadership skills\nExpand your understanding of responsibilities and options as a manager of a  clinical department\, service\, or program and as a senior institutional leader\nLearn strategies and tactics to lower costs and improve operations while increasing quality and safety\nAdvance knowledge and skills in the art and science of improvement\, allowing each participant the opportunity to immediately apply the skills they learn to a selected improvement project during the program\nVisit and engage with change agents in high performing health care delivery organizations in the greater Boston area\nAll while innovating and developing new and better ways of delivering care to meet the needs of patients and employees\n\nYou will also have the opportunity to learn from the Harvard case-based style of learning\, which provides a deep understanding of how leadership concepts apply to everyday situations in settings around the world. \nImprove Health Care\, Experience\, and Value \nAs part of the program\, each participant will identify and develop a plan for an improvement project connected to her or his organization’s business plan. Each participant will identify a key area of change prior to the start of the program\, submit the idea to faculty for review\, and actively work on the project during the program and beyond. \nThe improvement project may be in any one of three categories: \n\nImproving quality of care and services\nReducing costs while maintaining or improving quality\nExpanding patient or customer satisfaction with the development of new services or innovative ways of providing existing services\n\nThroughout the program you will work with faculty and participant colleagues to refine and further develop your project\, so that you can implement the project when you return home. Whether you work at a public health delivery site\, a government agency\, or another setting\, this collaboration will enable you to move forward with an actionable plan to improve performance. \nThe design of this program allows participants to achieve results by immediately applying the skills they learn to everyday work experiences. This combination of theory applied to daily work makes the program unique and provides a foundation for making improvements long after the program is completed. \nHarvard faculty in the program will assist you before and during the program\, guiding you through the steps required for successful change. His publications include the books Applied Behavior Analysis(with John Cooper and Tim Heron)\, Sign Here: A Contracting Book for Children and Their Parents(with Jill Dardig)\, and Exceptional Children: An Introduction to Special Education(with Sheila Alber-Morgan and Moira Konrad)\,each of which has been translated into several foreign languages. Awards recognizing Bill’s contributions to behavior analysis include the Fred S. Keller Behavioral Education Award from the American Psychological Association’s Division 25\, the Ellen P. Harris Professor of Child Psychiatry\, Psychiatry\, Pediatrics\, and Psychology at Yale University\, Child Study Center and recently served for eight years as Director of the Center.  A graduate of the University of Illinois and Stanford\, Dr. Volkmar completed residency training in adult psychiatry and then a Fellowship in Child Psychiatry at the Yale University’s School of Medicine and has been there ever since.  He has dedicated his career to understanding and treating children with developmental disorders and is a leader in the field of autism research. He has served as a teacher and mentor to many trainees some of whom are now leaders in the field. Dr. Volkmar’s grants and publications run just short of 100 pages in his CV. He has published four books on autism treatment and well over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters in scientific texts. Dr. Taylor started her career working in several prestigious institutions including the New England Center for Children and the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. After earning her PhD she held numerous executive-level management positions in behavioral health agencies including Co-Director of Research and Development for the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD)\, Founder and Director of CARD’s Specialized Outpatient Services\, and Chief Clinical Officer for Intercare Therapy\, Inc.. \n  \nDr. Taylor was also the founding Department Chair for the ABA Masters and PhD programs at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Los Angeles and an Associate Faculty member in Psychology at California State University Los Angeles and Channel Islands. She has published numerous peer reviewed articles and her research is also featured in the seminal textbook Applied Behavior Analysis\, by Cooper\, Heron and Heward.\nIn addition to her research\, clinical and academic positions\, Dr. Taylor previously served on the Executive Council for the International Association for Behavior Analysis (ABAI). More recently\, she was named as an Advisor to the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies. He regularly communicates with state officials at Department of Public Health\, Department of Developmental Services\, special education directors\, and state legislators on the funding and quality of ABA services. Dr. Woolf has authored publications and regularly presents ABA research at state\, national\, and international conferences. He has extensive experience providing treatment to children and adults with disabilities. He is the former president/founder of MassABA and eight year executive member on CTABA. He also served as the  ABAI Chapter leadership coordinator for three years. Dr. Woolf’s specialty areas include managing large scale home-based service delivery system\, practice ethics\, and licensure of behavior analysts. Harris Professor of Child Psychiatry\, Psychiatry\, Pediatrics\, and Psychology at Yale University\, Child Study Center and recently served for eight years as Director of the Center.  A graduate of the University of Illinois and Stanford\, Dr. Volkmar completed residency training in adult psychiatry and then a Fellowship in Child Psychiatry at the Yale University’s School of Medicine and has been there ever since.  He has dedicated his career to understanding and treating children with developmental disorders and is a leader in the field of autism research. Dr. Tarbox is the incoming editor-in-chief of the journal Behavior Analysis in Practice and serves on the editorial boards of several major scientific journals related to autism and behavior analysis. He has published four books on autism treatment and well over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters in scientific texts. Dr. Taylor started her career working in several prestigious institutions including the New England Center for Children and the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. After earning her PhD she held numerous executive-level management positions in behavioral health agencies including Co-Director of Research and Development for the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD)\, Founder and Director of CARD’s Specialized Outpatient Services\, and Chief Clinical Officer for Intercare Therapy\, Inc.. \n  \nDr. Taylor was also the founding Department Chair for the ABA Masters and PhD programs at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Los Angeles and an Associate Faculty member in Psychology at California State University Los Angeles and Channel Islands. She has published numerous peer reviewed articles and her research is also featured in the seminal textbook Applied Behavior Analysis\, by Cooper\, Heron and Heward.\nIn addition to her research\, clinical and academic positions\, Dr. Taylor previously served on the Executive Council for the International Association for Behavior Analysis (ABAI). More recently\, she was named as an Advisor to the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies. He regularly communicates with state officials at Department of Public Health\, Department of Developmental Services\, special education directors\, and state legislators on the funding and quality of ABA services. Dr. Woolf has authored publications and regularly presents ABA research at state\, national\, and international conferences. He has extensive experience providing treatment to children and adults with disabilities. He is the former president/founder of MassABA and eight year executive member on CTABA. He also served as the  ABAI Chapter leadership coordinator for three years. Dr. Woolf’s specialty areas include managing large scale home-based service delivery system\, practice ethics\, and licensure of behavior analysts. Sarah became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2004 (she even took the exam using real paper and a pencil). Sarah started her own ABA Business\, STE Consultants\, in 2004. Over the 15-years that she owned STE Sarah grew her business to serve over 2\,500 clients throughout the West Coast. Sarah is the former President of the California Association for Behavior Analysis (CalABA) and was a founding Board Member for the Council of Autism Service Providers (CASP). Sarah has presented at over 20 professional conferences throughout the United States. Sarah has also presented and consulted internationally in Kenya\, Belize and Brazil.
